Early warning film about Cancer that is surprisingly straight forward and informational. Granted, being the time that the film was made, I am not too sure of how much that info is factual now (eg the Doctor telling the patient that Cancer is not hereditary for one). Quite interesting to watch some of the exploration about the common myths of the time about the disease as well (eg "Only old people get it"). A very interesting short.

Quite an interesting piece, showing how attitudes and knowledge have changed since the 50's. The man smoking pipe will get cancer from the "chronic irritation" or the hot end of the pipe, when in fact, he'll likely get oral cancer from the smoking itself. Also, "Cancer isn't inherited" says the Doctor to the patient. Family history is actually an important part of the screening process for cancer.

Heart disease is mentioned as the #1 cause of death, and cancer is #2. Sadly, things haven't changed much in 60 years...

Subject: Rather lackluster
OK film on cancer for the time period, with some cheap visual effects (Cardboard arrow pointing at typed list). Not as compelling as other EB films (Despotism) or bizzare (Play in the Snow).

Subject: Fascinating
My mom has been relatively recently diagnosed with colon cancer. When she found out she immediately thought of her grandma who died of the same condition in 1960. I looked up when the anti-cancer drugs began and found most consider mustard gas (1946) for that category. I was able to show her how much has been learned since then and pick up on just how blessed I am to have been born when I have. I underwent bleomyacin, etiposide, and cisplatina for one battle with recurred dysgerminoma and was treated with resection the first diagnosis. Then I had a mastectomy for breast cancer in 2008. So much is being learned with each passing year. I've always been told that but enjoyed seeing this is true and how it started.
